Add Fun and Interest to Teaching Writing Online

with Sharon Beynon

Wed, 11/12/2008 - 12:00pm - 1:00pm (Pacific Time)

Do you get overwhelmed trying to make composition interesting for your students? Learning to write can be a dense experience for students -- hundreds of pages of reading, hours of writing each week. Since Podcasts were not yet in the picture for me, I introduced online NPR (National Public Radio) segments. Students could listen to "This I Believe" essays online before writing their own, listen to interviews with literary figures, and hear analytical commentary on current events. Not only have these segments added diversity and interest for the students, they have helped me improve my classes without adding much workload.
