Converting your Onsite Course to Online

This is a fully online workshop geared for faculty who wish to convert their onsite courses to one of three levels of webness (web enhanced, hybrid or fully online).

The course is comprised of three major phases of the design process that will guide you through converting or developing course material for your online course. The phases covered are Analysis, Design, and Development. Faculty are guided through the course conversion steps using course design strategies to ensure pedagogical soundness.

By the end, faculty will have a conversion plan and steps to put content online. After taking this course, students may want to enroll in the next offering of Blackboard, Moodle, or WebCT to learn how to design their course structure and upload their content in the course management system used by their campus.

Participants who successfully complete our Course Conversion Workshop can:

Determine the academic experience you want to provide your students with and the technology necessary to support that experience.
Critique online courses and determine what a quality online course consists of.
Participate in an instructor readiness assessment for teaching online, and identify the various teaching and learning styles of students.
Identify resources available to you and determine a strategy for moving your course to the web.
Conduct an audience analysis.
Plan a virtual community for your online course.
Identify the course infrastructure documents and online tools/features you will use in your course.
Create your course goals and objectives.
Plan learning activities that incorporate interactivity.
Plan how to assess student learning in the online environment.
Determine the type of media that you will use to create your online course content.
Complete an inventory worksheet for your entire course.
Convert one learning unit of content to a format that will be effective in the online environment.
