What Californians Think of Higher Education in the State
Perceptions of Higher Education by Californians
On November 11th, the Public Policy Institute of California released the results of a new public opinion survey on Californians perspective on Higher Education in the state. The full report can be found at:
One of the significant findings highlights the conundrum that is facing the state. Almost 91% of the respondents feel that budget cuts to higher education are either a big problem or somewhat of a problem. Further, 86% believe that overall affordability of higher education in California is a problem. They are also concerned about enrollment limitations, course reductions, and sacrifices of college faculty and staff. Yet, the respondents do not support either an increase in taxes or in student fees to address this situation.
What do you think the results of the survey are telling us about the state of higher education in California?? What suggestions do you have to address the issues identified in the report?
